We are discovering lots of different ways to practise our 'HEART WORDS', these are words that we can not sound out but just have to KNOW them off by heart like...the, because, said. A huge focus in Te Kete Wakahuia has been insects and we have being using magnifying glasses to look closely at bugs we find. Miss Stella hid 'tiny words' around the Play Zone that can only be read using a magnifying glass.
Once the children find one of the tiny words they are encouraged to read it outloud saying the letter names first then the whole word for example 't' 'h' 'e' 'the'.
Then record it down using the same process 't' 'h' 'e' 'the'.
It was awesome to see some of the children naturally pair up to support each other with the reading and writing.
