With all of the doctor dramatic play one child stood out. Lily was quietly sitting on te whāriki with a horse toy, her gloves and a bandage. I sat down and started talking with Lily and she told me that she was a doctor and that her horse's neck was bleeding so she was holding the bandage on tightly to stop it bleeding. I quickly put the connections together and for Lily she has seen her Mum as a doctor for animals. Lily's Mum is a vet as Lily acted out their own life experiences, it helped her make sense of what is happening in her life and the world around her.
A few of the other children picked up that Lily's play looked different to everyone else's and soon we had 3 vets that started to create a vet clinic in the opposite corner from the doctors.
