Racing car tally marks

There has been a group of children that have had a huge interest in hot wheel cars. They are a activity that come out every day. So we decided to guide this interest towards learning about tally marks and how to record information. We chose 4 cars each and coloured in our sheet.

Then one at a time we raced our cars down the pipe. If the car crossed the red tape line we would give it 1 tally mark.

  

 The children then decided to add another red mark and if they car crosses that one we would add on 2 tally marks.

We learnt that when we get to 5 tally marks we need to shut the gate and also that when we have finished we need to add up our tally marks and that give us the total.
